From a clear idea about what Malaysian players actually deserve, eight789 grew into one of the most trusted online casino and sports betting platforms in the country. Here's the story behind the brand.
eight789 started with a straightforward observation: Malaysian players were being underserved. Most international online casinos treated Malaysia as an afterthought — currencies required conversion, payment options were irrelevant to local wallets, and customer support operated in time zones that made getting help at 11 PM on a Friday night almost impossible. eight789 was created specifically to fix that.
The platform launched with Malaysian Ringgit as its default and only currency, with deep integration of the payment channels Malaysians already use every day — Touch 'n Go eWallet, Boost, GrabPay, DuitNow, FPX, Maybank2u, CIMB Clicks, Public Bank online, and Hong Leong Connect. No USD conversion. No hidden exchange rate markups. What you deposit in RM is what you play in RM, and what you withdraw comes straight back as RM to your preferred e-wallet or bank account.
The name eight789 carries meaning. In Chinese numerology, widely embraced across Malaysia's Chinese community, the number 8 (八) is synonymous with prosperity and good fortune, while 7 and 9 are associated with luck and longevity respectively. The brand name is a nod to the festive, optimistic spirit shared across Malaysia's multicultural communities — from Chinese New Year to Hari Raya, Deepavali to Christmas — occasions when Malaysians come together to celebrate, share good fortune, and enjoy a little extra excitement.
"We didn't build just another online casino. We built the one that actually speaks the language of Malaysian players — in every sense of the phrase."
